Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

St. Kate's blanks women's soccer, 2-0

ST. PAUL, Minn. – St. Catherine University scored a goal in each half to defeat the St. Olaf College women's soccer team, 2-0, in a matchup of teams in the race for spots in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs on Tuesday afternoon.

Amanda Elton and Lauren Witte combined to provide all of the offense in the game for St. Catherine (9-4-0, 5-2-0 MIAC) by each providing a goal and an assist. The loss snapped a three-game unbeaten streak in MIAC play for St. Olaf (7-4-2, 4-2-1 MIAC), which had gone 2-0-1 in conference play in October.

Elton scored her fourth goal of the season midway through the first half for the Wildcats and Witte netted her team-leading 11th just over two minutes into the second half to give St. Kate's an insurance goal. The St. Kate's defense held the Oles to eight shots in the game, including one shot on goal.

St. Olaf generated three shots and three corner kicks in the opening 20 minutes before Elton registered the game's opening goal in the 23rd minute, curling a left-footed shot inside the far post from the right side of the box.

First year Tessa Anderson had a pair of chances to tie it in the final 15 minutes of the opening half, as she found the side netting from the right side of the box in the 31st minute and saw her shot from the top of the box saved in the lower-left corner in the 37th minute.

Just 2:10 into the second half, St. Kate's doubled its advantage when Witte shot on the turn near the top of the box and found the top-right corner off an assist from Elton. After being outshot 7-5 in the opening half, the Wildcats took 11 of the 12 shots in the second half.

Junior Brynne Davis, the reigning MIAC Women's Soccer Athlete of the Week, made seven saves in the loss for the Oles. Tayler Koop earned the shutout victory with one save for the Wildcats.

St. Olaf travels to St. Joseph, Minn. to face the College of Saint Benedict on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3:30 p.m.
