ST. JOSEPH, Minn. - The St. Olaf College women's soccer team fell, 2-1, in double overtime time to the College of Saint Benedict on Sunday afternoon after Saint Benedict's Megan Thompson scored her second goal of the game in the 108th minute.
After St. Olaf's (7-5-2, 4-3-1 MIAC) junior
Annie Reichhoff scored in the 21st minute, Saint Benedict (8-3-2, 5-1-1 MIAC) answered in the second half to even the score and send the game into overtime. Thompson added her second goal of the game in the 108th minute to lift the Bennies over the Oles.
Reichhoff gave the Oles the lead in the 21st minute, heading in a corner kick from
Katie Brumley for her third goal of the season. Brumley's assist was her fourth of the season, tying her with sophomore
Hayley Hoffmann for the team lead.
Two minutes later, sophomore
Grace Maxwell prevented the Bennies from tying the game by clearing the ball off the line following a scrum in the box.
St. Olaf nearly doubled its lead in the 33rd minute when senior
Claire Bash unleashed a rocket from 25 yars out that CSB goalkeeper Kendall Koenen tipped onto the cross bar and the Bennies' defense cleared away the loose ball.
CSB recorded two shots in the second half before Thompson scored in the 61st minute to even the score at 1-1.
Senior
Mackenzie Schoustra answered with back-to-back shots three and a half minutes later, but Koenen grabbed the save on the second shot to keep the score at 1-1.
Junior
Rose Sandell and Bash posted shots in the final 10 minutes of regulation, but were unable to convert. Junior goalkeeper
Brynne Davis grabbed a save with 39 seconds remaining in regulation to keep the score even and send the game into overtime.
The Bennies had four shots in the first 10 minutes of overtime as Davis picked up two saves to keep the Oles even with CSB and send the game into double overtime.
CSB's Mara Flaherty and Clair Lehmann collected consecutive shots in the 105th minute, followed by a shot from Maren Noble that hit that crossbar. Davis recorded two saves in the sequence, and another less than two minutes later.
With 2:23 remaining in double overtime, Thompson found the back of the goal and recorded her second goal of the game to help lift the Bennies past the Oles.
Davis posted her second game of the season with double-figure saves with 12.Â
