No. 10 Bethel ends football's unbeaten start

ARDEN HILLS, Minn. – No. 10/15 Bethel University scored touchdowns on seven-straight drives in the second and third quarters on its way to snapping the St. Olaf College football team's unbeaten start to the season by a score of 56-10 on Saturday at Royal Stadium.

The Oles' lone touchdown of the afternoon was a 42-yard strike from sophomore Lars Prestemon to classmate Isaac Coutier with 2:30 to go in the first quarter. Sophomore Ethan March added a 29-yard field goal with 6:00 remaining in the game for St. Olaf's other score of the game.

Bethel racked up 563 yards of total offense in the game, rushing for 300 yards and six touchdowns in the win. Jaran Roste had a hand in three touchdowns for the Royals, going 17-for-24 for 247 yards and two touchdowns through the air, while adding 99 yards and a score on the ground.

Roste got Bethel on the board first on the opening possession of the game, scoring on a 37-yard keeper less than four minutes in after the Royals converted on a pair of third downs on the drive.

Later in the first quarter, a personal foul on Bethel negated a 34-yard field goal by Bjorn Charles, helping the St. Olaf defense force a turnover on downs. On the ensuing drive, the Oles covered 68 yards in five plays, tying the game at 7-7 on Prestemon's 42-yard strike to Coutier, which was the fourth touchdown connection between the pair of sophomores in the last three games.

The score remained 7-7 until Bethel scored three touchdowns in the final 6:02 of the half to open up a 28-7 halftime lead. Gibas scored on runs of five and two yards on either side of a 22-yard touchdown pass from Roste to Larsen.

Trailing by 21 at the half, St. Olaf got the ball to start the second half but went three and out to give the ball back to Bethel. The Royals then scored on their first offensive play of the half, as Roster found Friedlein on a screen pass and Friedlein ran up the left sideline for a 47-yard touchdown.

Later in the third quarter, Bethel converted on a fourth and nine with a 23-yard pass from Roste to Larsen to set up first and goal at the St. Olaf one-yard line. On the next play, Mike Delich plunged in from a yard out to make it 42-7.
