BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Seniors
Lauren Rewers and
Emily Jarnigan of the St. Olaf College volleyball team collected the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Hitter and Setter/Libero of the Week awards on Monday afternoon, as announced by the conference office.
Rewers and Jarnigan each gathered the first MIAC Athlete of the Week accolade of their careers after helping St. Olaf to a 3-0 week that included a five-set victory over No. 11 Augsburg. Their recognition marked the second time this season the Oles have swept the weekly conference volleyball awards.
Jarnigan averaged 5.67 digs per set and totaled at least 17 digs in all three of St. Olaf's victories last week. The senior posted 30 digs – the second-highest total of her career – in the five-set win over the nationally-ranked Auggies on Wednesday. She added 17 digs in a sweep of Northwestern two days later and 21 digs in a four-set win at St. Catherine on Saturday.
Rewers tallied 50 kills and averaged 4.17 kills per set over the three matches. The senior had 18 kills to help the Oles hand Augsburg its first MIAC loss of the season and posted 21 kills in Saturday's four-set victory at St. Kate's. Rewers had double-digit kills in all three wins and added 30 digs, nine blocks, and six aces.
St. Olaf has three home matches coming up this week, starting with a non-conference matchup with Crown on Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 6 p.m. at Skoglund Center.
