Maria Newton,
Helen Jensen and
Marissa Wolff each had first-place finishes as the St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving team hosted its first dual of the season against St. Thomas. The Oles fell to the Tommies, 156-131, on Friday night in Skoglund Center.
St. Olaf was first in five different races, including two first-place finishes from Newton and Jensen, and one from Wolff.
Newton was first in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:59.08, and added another first-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (55.15). Along with her two first-place finishes, Newton added a second-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.30.
Jensen posted a first-place finish for the Oles in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:15.44, and another in the 400-yard IM (4:43.48). Another first-place finish came from Wolff in the 500-yard freestyle, as she posted a time of 5:28.85.
Wolff (11:04.2) picked up a second-place finish in the 1,000-yard freestyle and
Caitlin Croasdell (11:05.81) was third. Another third-place finish came from
Annika Cleven in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:02.31. In the 500-yard freestyle, Croasdell was second with a time of 5:29.85.
Sophia Nevin tallied a second-place finish with a time of 1:10.38 in the 100-yard breaststroke, and
Kelly Wichmann (1:14.27) followed in third. Nevin had a second-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:31.78.
A relay of Cleven, Nevin, Newton and Wolff took second in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:52.86, followed by a relay of Jensen, Wichman,
Brydie Stewart and
Solvay Metelmann (1:59.55) in third.
Metelmann (27.88) registered a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle, and
Emily Pelszynski (28.09) was fifth, while Wolff (56.39) was third in the 100-yard freestyle and Wichmann (2:40.35) was third in the 200-yard breaststroke.
In the one-meter diving
Lauren Kroschel was fourth with a score of 150.30 and
Anna White (123.00) was fifth.
The Oles return to action on Saturday, November 9, as they travel to St. Peter for a dual against Gustavus Adolphus.
