Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Parker's 42 saves not enough in 1-0 loss to No. 15 St. Thomas

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Sam Huff scored the lone goal of the game late in the second period to lift the No. 15-ranked University of St. Thomas to a 1-0 victory over the St. Olaf College men's hockey team in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener for both teams on Friday night at St. Olaf Ice Arena.

Senior goaltender Noah Parker made 42 saves on the night for St. Olaf (0-5-0, 0-1-0 MIAC) and was beaten only by Huff's goal at 18:59 of the second period. St. Thomas (3-1-1, 1-0-0 MIAC) got a 19-save shutout from Camden Burggrabe to make Huff's goal stand up as the game-winner.

Parker's 42-save effort marked his seventh game with at least 40 saves in his career, as the senior made 21 saves in the first period, 11 in the second and 10 in the third.

In the opening period, Parker made 10 saves in the opening 6:46 of the game to keep the Tommies off the board early. St. Olaf generated a pair of scoring chances midway through the period, as senior Josh Radtke drew a save from Burggrabe on a 2-on-1 shortly before Burggrabe denied senior Luke Ranallo from the left face-off dot on an odd-man rush.

After a 21-save opening period, Parker stopped the first 10 shots he faced in the second, as the Oles killed off a pair of St. Thomas power-play opportunities in the first eight-plus minutes of the period. The Tommies finally broke through at 18:59 of the second when Huff fired the puck in under the bar from the left after a cross-ice pass from Jack Vincent.

With St. Thomas continuing to hold a 1-0 lead, Burggrabe thwarted first year Raymond Fleming's attempt from the right circle with 4:30 remaining and added another save two minutes later on a shot by Ranallo. St. Olaf pulled Parker in favor of the extra attacker for the final 1:20 and generated three shots by senior Paul Stehr, but the Tommies blocked two of the shots and Burggrabe saved the other as the visitors held on.

The two teams complete their conference-opening series on Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. at St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights.
