Eiden nets first goal of season in loss at CSB

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The College of Saint Benedict scored twice in each of the first two periods and went on to defeat the St. Olaf College women's hockey team, 5-1, in a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at Dave Torrey Arena.

After taking a 2-0 lead at the first intermission, Saint Benedict (3-3) scored twice in the span of less than a minute early in the second to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Junior Mary Kate Eiden netted her first goal of the season in the third period for St. Olaf (0-9).

The Bennies grabbed an early 1-0 lead on Rylan Bistodeau's goal at 4:57 of the first period and doubled their lead a little over eight minutes later on a goal by Zoe Culshaw-Klein at 13:01. St. Olaf had eight of its 19 shots on goal in the game in the opening 20 minutes but went into the locker room down 2-0.

Sophomore Annika Patterson had consecutive shots saved by CSB's Kailee Medved early in the second period before the Bennies scored goals 54 seconds apart to stretch their lead to 4-0. Annika Brodt scored the first of Saint Ben's two second-period goals at 5:23, followed by one from Mollie Wise at 6:17.

Eiden got the Oles on the board midway through the third period, putting in a rebound off a shot by senior Maddie Etienne at 10:07. Etienne's assist was her second of the season, tying her for the team lead.

Emily Lemker closed out the scoring for Saint Ben's at 13:56, as she became the fifth CSB skater to score in the game, which featured just one abbreviated power play for each team.

Sophomore Ivy Shonka stopped 19 of the 21 shots she faced in relief of first year Taylor Smith, who had 12 saves in the opening 25:23 of the game. Medved recorded 18 saves in the win for CSB.
