MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Gavin Holland scored twice in the first four minutes of the second period to lead No. 8 Augsburg University to a 3-1 victory over the St. Olaf College men's hockey team the opener of a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series on Friday evening at Ed Saugestad Rink.

Dylan Kooner gave St. Olaf (1-10-0, 1-4-0 MIAC) a 1-0 lead after one with his second collegiate goal late in the first period, but Holland tallied two goals in the opening 3:54 of the second to give Augsburg (7-2-0, 4-1-0 MIAC) the lead. Gunnar Goodmanson added a short-handed goal on a breakaway in the third for the Auggies.
Despite being outshot by a 14-6 margin in the opening 20 minutes, the Oles took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Parker saved all 14 of Augsburg's shots on goal in the period before Kooner turned the puck in from close range off assists from seniors
Tuukka Totro and
Luke Ranallo at the 18:13 mark.
Just 33 seconds into the second period, Holland tied the game up for the Auggies with a wrist shot to the top-right corner after breaking into the zone up the left boards. Austin Martinsen and Patrick O'Connor earned assists on the equalizing goal.
Holland netted the eventual game-winner at 3:54 of the second period after being set up by Martinsen and Goodmanson. Parker prevented the Auggies from building on their one-goal lead later in the period, sliding across his line to deny Michael Redmon shortly before making a sprawling save to thwart Erik Palmqvist.
St. Olaf started the third period with 36 seconds of power play time but could not generate a shot. The Oles killed off a minor penalty midway through the period to stay within a goal before Goodmanson gave Augsburg some breathing room with a short-handed breakaway goal at 12:32.
Parker recorded a season-high 44 saves in the loss for St. Olaf, with the 44 saves marking the senior's third 40-save outing of the season. Daniil Gerasimov stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced in goal for the Auggies.
St. Olaf and Augsburg finish off their series on Saturday, Dec. 7 at 2 p.m. at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
