OWATONNA, Minn. – Sophomore
Emily Otteson rallied from a set down to win at No. 4 singles for the St. Olaf College women's tennis team in an 8-1 defeat to the University of St. Thomas on Sunday afternoon at Owatonna Tennis Center.
After dropping the first set to Paige McLeod of St. Thomas (4-0, 3-0 MIAC), Otteson rallied to win a tight second set and won the super tiebreaker for a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 victory at fourth singles for St. Olaf (1-1, 1-1 MIAC). The win was Otteson's second in two MIAC matches early on this season.
The Tommies swept the three doubles matches but three of the six singles matches went the distance on the afternoon. In addition to Otteson's victory, senior
Kellis Brandt and sophomore
Greta Prokosch won the first sets of their matches at No. 2 and No. 5 singles, respectively, before falling in super tiebreakers.
Prokosch claimed her first set against Sarah Benoy at fifth singles in a tiebreaker, but Benoy fought back to win the second set and the super tiebreaker, 10-8. Brandt won her first set against Taylor McLeod at second singles before going down 2-6, 6-2, 10-2.
St. Olaf's next match is Friday, Feb. 22 at 6:30 p.m. against Luther College at Owatonna Tennis Center.
