Greta Prokosch and
Ellie Bergstrand were each victorious in both their matches, as the St. Olaf College women's tennis team picked up a 6-3 non-conference victory over Luther College on Friday evening at Owatonna Tennis Center.
Barboza and Prokosch paired up for a win at No. 1 doubles, while Bergstrand and
Emily Otteson provided a win at No. 2 doubles to give St. Olaf (2-1) a lead over Luther (8-4) after doubles. Barboza, Bergstrand, Prokosch and
Teresa Fawcett all won their singles matches to propel the Oles to the non-conference win.
The pairs of Barboza/Prokosch and Bergstrand/Otteson both improved their records to 2-1 this season to give St. Olaf the advantage after doubles. Barboza and Prokosch posted an 8-5 win atop the doubles lineup, while Bergstrand and Otteson earned an 8-6 victory at the second spot. The Norse won a close match at No. 3 doubles by an 8-6 margin.
Bergstrand put the first singles point on the board with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over Stephanie Almquist at No. 3 singles to move to 2-1 on the season. After Luther claimed a 1-6, 6-3, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles, Barboza put the Oles on top, 4-2, with a 7-6 (5), 6-4 victory at No. 1 singles.
In her first collegiate dual match in singles, Fawcett rallied for a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win to provide the clinching point at No. 6 singles for St. Olaf. Prokosch added a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles, before Luther's Shelby Cook posted a win at No. 4 singles to conclude the match.
St. Olaf returns to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Saturday, Mar. 2 against Bethel University at Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
