Women's tennis falls to Bethel

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opponent Bethel University on Saturday afternoon at the University of Minnesota's Baseline Tennis Center.

Bethel (6-1, 2-0 MIAC) extended its winning streak to three-straight matches by sweeping the doubles and picking up five straight-set wins in singles to top St. Olaf (2-2, 1-2 MIAC). The lone loss for the Royals this season came to Division I Valparaiso University.

In doubles, Bethel recorded wins by margins of 8-3, 8-4 and 8-5 at the three respective flights, with Kellis Brandt and Teresa Fawcett claiming five games in their match at No. 3 doubles.

Sophomore Greta Prokosch played the lone singles match of the day that was extended to a super tiebreaker. The sophomore fought back from dropping the first set in a tiebreaker to win the second set, 6-4, but eventually dropped the super tiebreaker, 10-7.

Sophomore Sabrina Barboza, this week's MIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week, took the second set of her No. 1 singles match against Grace Riermann to a tiebreaker before falling, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). First year Teresa Fawcett won five games in her No. 6 singles match against Meghan Schuler but went down, 6-2, 6-3.

St. Olaf takes on Concordia College (Minn.) on Saturday, Mar. 9 at 1:30 p.m. at Owatonna Tennis Center.
