Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Bethel uses three-goal third to down men's hockey

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Bethel University's Chase DiBari scored a pair of goals midway through the third period to send the Royals to a 4-1 victory over the St. Olaf College men's hockey team on Friday evening at St. Olaf Ice Arena.

DiBari broke a 1-1 deadlock with his first-career goal for Bethel (4-18-2, 4-9-2 MIAC) and added another two and a half minutes later to propel the Royals past St. Olaf (4-15-2, 2-9-2 MIAC). Senior captain Caleb Callaway scored his second goal of the season for the Oles in the loss.

After a scoreless opening period, Bethel broke through with the opening goal on the power play at 8:27 of the second period, when Dallas Marvin beat reigning MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week Noah Parker on the glove side from the top of the right circle.

Callaway brought St. Olaf level at 11:11, firing the puck home from the slot after collecting the puck from sophomore Jesse Lawman, who earned his second assist of the season.

The score remained locked at a goal apiece until DiBari skated from left to right in the offensive end and lifted a backhand under the bar for his first collegiate goal. Just 2:28 later, DiBari extended Bethel's lead to 3-1 by picking out the top-right corner from the left side after circling from right to left in the St. Olaf zone.

Josiah Roen added an empty-net goal for the Royals with three minutes remaining after the Oles pulled Parker out of a timeout in search of a late rally.

St. Olaf outshot Bethel by a 40-27 margin, but Ridge Gerads stopped 39 of the 40 shots he faced for the Royals. Parker finished the night with 23 saves for the Oles.

The two teams wrap up their weekend series on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. at Schwan Super Rink in Blaine.
