TUCSON, Ariz. – The St. Olaf College baseball team fell to Carroll University, 13-1, in a non-conference match-up on Sunday afternoon to conclude its trip to Arizona with a 3-2 record.
Carroll (2-4) jumped out to an early four-run lead on five hits in the first inning and limited St. Olaf (3-2) to six hits in the game while tallying 17 of its own.
TJ Rogers led St. Olaf as he was 3-for-4 with a run and
Tommy McDonald added a double and an RBI. Five pitchers worked in the game for the Oles.
After the Pioneers scored four in the top of the first, the Oles put one on the board in the bottom of the inning. Rogers led off with a single to right and came around to score on a double by McDonald in the next at bat.
Carroll added a run in the second inning on an RBI triple by Matthew Putman, who was 5-for-5 with three runs and three RBI in the game, to make the score 5-1. The Pioneers tallied single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings before tacking on five runs in the eighth.
St. Olaf heads to Auburndale, Fla. for eight games at the Russmat Central Florida Invitational from Mar. 21-27, beginning with a doubleheader against Cazenovia College. Game one is slated for 8:15 a.m. CDT on Thursday, Mar. 21.
