TUCSON, Ariz. – The St. Olaf College baseball team picked up two victories on Saturday afternoon, as the Oles downed Carthage College, 12-1, and Northwestern College (Iowa), 6-2, in non-conference matchups.
St. Olaf (3-1) took an early 3-0 lead over Carthage (4-4) in the first inning, and a five-run sixth inning helped secure the victory as the Oles posted 15 hits in the game. The Oles tallied the second victory of the day over Northwestern (5-7), registering back-to-back two-run innings in the third and fourth, while holding the Raiders to two runs off six hits in the contest.

All nine St. Olaf batters had at least one hit as part of the 15-hit attack while the Oles scored in six of their seven innings at the plate.
Dylan Blake led the way by going 4-of-5 with two runs and two RBI, while
Sam Pressman was 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs and three RBI.
Sam Westermeyer pitched the entire game and picked up the win to make his season record 1-0, and
Tommy McDonald was 2-of-4 from the plate, along with a walk, three runs and one RBI.
Ryan Torbenson and
Jake Ossell each recorded two RBI.
St. Olaf's first four batters of the game all reached base to help jump start a three-run first inning. After
TJ Rogers was walked and stole second, a single from McDonald advanced him to third, and Rogers recorded the first run for the Oles on an error by Carthage. Blake posted a single that sent McDonald home and a sacrifice fly from Torbenson tallied an RBI as Pressman scored to make the score 3-0.
Pressman stretched the Oles' lead to 4-0 in the second with a two-out RBI single to left that scored Rogers. After a double from C. Klein of Carthage advanced runners, a sacrifice fly from Cody Phelps scored runners to put Carthage on the board at 4-1.
In the fourth inning back-to-back singles from
Matthew Muller and
Bobby Isbell put runners on base and a sacrifice fly from McDonald regained a four-run lead for the Oles at 5-1. After a single from
Matthew Muller and a stolen base, a single from Isbell advanced the Ole runner and Muller scored on a fielder's choice.
St. Olaf blew the game open in the sixth, scoring five runs on six hits in the frame. A single by Isbell and a double by McDonald put runners on second and third with one out for Pressman, who drove them both in with a single up the middle. Three batters later, Torbenson knocked in Pressman with an RBI double and Ossell followed with a two-run single to make it an 11-1 game.
Blake posted his fourth hit of the game and an RBI that sent McDonald home in the sixth. Westermeyer scattered six hits and two walks in the seven-inning complete game, holding the Reds, who went 31-12 last season, to just one run.

St. Olaf marked two runs in three different innings, and Stuckmayer led the way as he was 3-of-5 at the plate, including a double that resulted in an RBI. Pressman and McDonald hit back-to-back triples in the fourth inning that helped extend the lead.
Jesse Retzlaff threw 5.2 innings of one-run ball to record the win, while
Forrest Kobelt pitched the final three innings to record the save in his first collegiate appearance.
The Oles broke the deadlock in the third inning and took a two-run lead as St. Olaf rallied after two outs with Blake reaching on a walk as the third batter in the inning. Stuckmayer singled and collected the RBI. After
Luke Dahl was walked,
Satchel Daleo singled and Stuckmayer reached home to make the score 2-0.
Northwestern answered in the top of the fourth as a single put Ben De Boer on base, and he would score off of a sacrifice fly by Austin Zylstra to make the score 2-1, but St. Olaf put two more on the board in the bottom of the fourth. Pressman and McDonald hit back-to-back triples, followed by a double from Stuckmayer. McDonald made the score 4-1 as he picked up a run off of Stuckmayer's double.
St. Olaf extended the lead in the seventh inning. The first three batters were walked, followed by a sacrifice fly from Pressman as Muller recorded the run. Blake hit a sacrifice run that sent
Andrew Nomoto home to make the score 6-1.
The Raiders committed two errors in the game while the Oles held them to six hits.
St. Olaf wraps up competition in Tucson on Sunday, Mar. 10 with a non-conference game against Carroll beginning at 10 a.m. central time.
