ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sophomore
Emily Otteson won both her matches for the St. Olaf College women's tennis team in a 5-4 road defeat to Macalester College on Tuesday at Hayden Courts.
Two doubles victories were the difference in the match, as Macalester (7-9, 2-7 MIAC) got a singles split with St. Olaf (7-6, 4-5 MIAC) after taking two of the three doubles matches. The Oles had already secured a spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs and will be the No. 6 seed in the six-team tournament.
In doubles, Otteson and
Ellie Bergstrand won their team-best eighth match of the season, their fifth win in conference play, with an 8-5 victory at No. 2 doubles. The Scots claimed an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles and came out on top, 8-6, at No. 3 doubles to take a lead into singles.
Otteson,
Sabrina Barboza and
Greta Prokosch all posted their third-straight victories in singles for the Oles, with all three winning in straight sets. Prokosch picked up her 10th win of the season with a 6-2, 7-6 victory over Emma Baker at No. 4 singles.
Otteson edged Claire Buehler, 7-5, 6-4, at No. 4 singles to log her seventh victory in her last eight singles matches, while Barboza was victorious for the sixth time in her last seven matches by a 6-4, 7-5 score line at No. 1 singles against Laurel Hickey.
St. Olaf closes out the regular season at No. 31 Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday, Apr. 27 at 10 a.m.
