ST. PAUL, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team wrapped up its season with a 9-0 loss at Macalester College in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Thursday at Hayden Courts.
After sweeping the three doubles matches, Macalester (12-4, 5-2 MIAC) did not drop a set in singles play to complete the victory over St. Olaf (4-7, 3-6 MIAC).
In doubles, the Scots were victorious 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, 8-4 at No. 2 doubles and 8-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Sophomores
Spencer Wick and
Dez Young dropped close first sets in their straight-set defeats at No. 2 and No. 6 singles. Wick fell, 7-5, 6-0, to Jeffrey Jorgensen at the second spot and Young was edged, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 by Matthew Yang at sixth singles.
The match was the final contest in the careers of St. Olaf's three seniors:
Gus Fedje-Johnston,
Corey Loken and
Christopher Prokosch. Loken closed out his career by tying teammate
Tony Klagge with a team-high four singles victories this season, while Loken and Prokosch each posted four doubles wins this spring.
