NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team saw its three-match winning streak come to an end with a 9-0 defeat to No. 32 Carleton College on Tuesday afternoon at Carlson Courts.
St. Olaf (5-5, 2-4 MIAC) won at least four games in each of the three doubles matches, but nationally-ranked Carleton (11-2, 5-0) remained unbeaten in the MIAC with the 9-0 victory.
The Knights won the three doubles matches by scores of 8-4, 8-5 and 8-4, respectively. Sophomores
Sabrina Barboza and
Greta Prokosch put four games on the board against the No. 22-ranked pairing of Kristina Conrad and Madeline Prins.
Ellie Bergstrand and
Emily Otteson won five games in their defeat to Taylor Thulson and Faith Yim, while
Kellis Brandt and
Teresa Fawcett claimed four games at No. 3 doubles against Elizabeth Yim and Sonya Romanenko. Bergstrand and Otteson had won their last three matches prior to the loss.
In singles, Carleton won all six matches in straight sets, with Barboza's 6-4, 6-4 defeat to Romanenko at No. 1 singles being the closest score line of the afternoon. The setback ended Barboza's three-match winning streak.
Prokosch and Otteson also saw their singles winning streaks halted with defeats at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Prokosch had won five-straight matches, while Otteson had won four in a row.
The Oles face the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday, Apr. 13 at 4:30 p.m. at Sta-fit in Sartell. The match was moved indoors due to the impending snowstorm.
