Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Pacific Lutheran hands women's soccer its first loss, 3-1

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior Claire Bash scored an early goal, but visiting Pacific Lutheran University netted the final three goals of the game to defeat the St. Olaf College women's soccer team, 3-1, on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

Bash headed in a corner from classmate Katie Brumley in the fifth minute to give St. Olaf (1-1-0) a quick 1-0 lead, but Pacific Lutheran (1-0-1) replied less than five minutes later on a goal by Leah Magee to even it up at a goal apiece. Maddie Landreth scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 27th minute before Magee added her second of the game in the 59th minute.

Just over four minutes into the game, St. Olaf won a corner after a Mackenzie Schoustra goal-bound shot was blocked out over the end line. From the left corner, Brumley found Bash in the middle of the box and Bash nodded the ball in under the bar for the eighth goal of her career.

The Lutes struck back in the 10th minute when Magee slotted home a rebound after Brynne Davis saved an initial close-range shot following a bouncing ball that got in behind the St. Olaf backline. In the 27th minute, Pacific Lutheran took the lead when Landreth scored from 25 yards out.

Magee grabbed her second goal of the afternoon in the 59th minute, one-timing a curling shot inside the right post from just outside of the penalty kick spot off a pass from Alyssa Jordan.

Pacific Lutheran outshot St. Olaf by a 20-5 margin in the game and held an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal. Davis made eight saves between the posts for the Oles, while Cassidy Crosswhite had one stop for the Lutes.

St. Olaf hosts UW-Stout on Thursday, Sept. 5 at 4 p.m. at Rolf Mellby Field.
