Wilson, women's soccer put five past Ripon on the road

RIPON, Wis. – Junior Maggie Wilson had two goals and one assist to lead the St. Olaf College women's soccer team to a 5-2 road victory over Ripon College on Saturday afternoon.

Wilson was one of five goal scorers on the afternoon for St. Olaf (3-1-1), which also got goals from junior Annie Reichhoff, senior Eileen Healy and first year Tessa Anderson to defeat Ripon (1-4-0). Reichhoff had a goal and an assist in the victory, while Anderson's goal was the first of her young career.

Goals less than a minute apart from Reichhoff and Wilson in the first 11 minutes of the game got the Oles out to a quick 2-0 lead. In the 10th minute, Reichhoff opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a chip from eight yards out and, 57 seconds later, Wilson found the top-right corner off assists from Reichhoff and Hayley Hoffmann to double the St. Olaf advantage.

In the 29th minute, Wilson set up Healy's sceond-career goal to make it 3-0 before Ripon got one goal back through Paige Pierce in the 31st minute to make it a 3-1 game at the half.

The score remained 3-1 until the 71st minute when senior Mackenzie Schoustra unselfishly squared the ball to Anderson in the box for St. Olaf's fourth goal of the afternoon. Seconds later, the Red Hawks got the goal back, but Wilson headed in a cross from sophomore Anna Newby in the 81st minute to close the scoring.

St. Olaf fired 17 shots in each half to outshoot Ripon by a 34-9 margin in the game. The Oles got 24 shots on goal, compared to six for the Red Hawks, as Stefani Zeiger made 19 saves for the hosts. Junior Brynne Davis earned the victory with four saves on the afternoon for St. Olaf.

The Oles open Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play on Tuesday, Sept. 17 with a trip to St. Paul to face Hamline at 4 p.m.
