ST. PETER, Minn. – Seventh-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College broke open a scoreless game with six goals in the second period on its way to an 8-0 win over the St. Olaf College women's hockey team in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) series opener between the two teams on Thursday evening at Don Roberts Ice Rink.
After being held scoreless in the opening period, Gustavus (10-2-1, 6-0-1 MIAC) scored four times in the first 9:29 during a six-goal second period. Sophomore
Grace Boswell-Healey stopped the first 24 shots she faced for St. Olaf (0-12-2, 0-7-0 MIAC) before the Gusties broke through in the second.
Gustavus outshot St. Olaf by a 19-1 margin in the opening period but Boswell-Healey stopped all 19 of the shots she faced to keep the game scoreless after one. The Gusties nearly broke through on the second of their two power plays in the opening period, but Hailey Holland rang a shot off the pipe with a minute to go in the period.
In the second, Gustavus exploded for six goals, including four in the first 9:29 of the period. Grace Schulte tallied two goals in the period for the Gusties, who chased Boswell-Healey before the midway point of the second after the sophomore had stopped 24-straight shots in the first 24-plus minutes of the game.

Kaitlyn Pellicci made 20 saves in the third period after replacing sophomore
Ivy Shonka in net, as the score remained 6-0 until the Gusties added two goals in the final seven minutes of the contest. Shonka made 11 saves in 11:43 between the pipes, while Boswell-Healey finished the night with 27 stops.
Katie McCoy stopped all six shots she saved for Gustavus to pick up the shutout victory.
After a day off, the two teams will conclude their series at St. Olaf Ice Arena at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18.
