Helen Jensen and first year
Annika Cleven won two individual events and swam on the winning 400-yard freestyle relay as the St. Olaf College women's swimming and diving dropped a dual, 135-106, to the College of Saint Benedict on Friday evening at Warner Palaestra Pool.
Jensen was first to touch in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:07.36) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:32.71), while Cleven won the 200-yard individual medley (2:17.29) and 200-yard butterfly (2:19.16). First years
Maria Newton and
Allison Purdum joined Jensen and Cleven on the winning 400 free relay (3:45.92).
Newton and junior
Maya Knutson posted an event win and a runner-up finish apiece, with Knutson winning the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.72) and Newton claiming the 100-yard freestyle (54.79). Knutson placed second in the 200-yard backstroke (2:16.13) and Newton was second in the 50-yard freestyle (25.18).
Purdum added a victory in the 500-yard freestyle (5:38.65) and classmate
Brydie Stewart swam to a second-place result in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.40), trailing only Jensen in the event.
St. Olaf heads across town to face Carleton College in its second of back-to-back duals on Saturday, Jan. 25 at 11 a.m.
