Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's hockey edged, 5-4, in wild one in Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's hockey team led 4-3 midway through the third period before Concordia-Moorhead rallied late for a 5-4 victory in the series opener between the two teams on Friday evening at Moorhead Sports Center.

St. Olaf (0-22-2, 0-17-0 MIAC) got out to a 2-0 lead in the first period before Concordia (7-17-0, 5-12-0 MIAC) scored the next three goals to take a 3-2 lead in the second. The Oles responded by scoring next two goals to go back ahead, 4-3, halfway through the third only for the Cobbers to score twice in the final 7:14, including the game-winner with 1:54 to go, to steal the victory.

Seniors Maddie Etienne and Johanna Glaaser scored less than four minutes apart in the first 12 minutes to stake St. Olaf to an early 2-0 lead. Etienne's goal at 7:32 was the first tally of her collegiate career, while Glaaser's at 11:12 was her team-leading fifth of the season.

Libby Hinrichs made it a one-goal game after one period at 14:33 of the first before tying it up at 2-2 at 5:47 of the second for the Cobbers. Exactly two minutes after Hinrichs tied the game, Brenna Mjoness gave Concordia its first lead of the evening at 3-2.

The Oles evened the game at 3-3 after two periods on sophomore Annika Patterson's fourth goal of the season, a power-play tally at 15:32 and went ahead on a goal by sophomore Jackie LaFaive at 9:58 of the third.

The lead lasted fewer than three minutes, however, as Amanda Fleming knotted the game up for the third time on the night at 12:46 on the power play. Baumann broke the deadlock with just under two minutes to go to give the Cobbers the win.

The same two teams wrap up their seasons on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. in Moorhead.
