Patterson scores late in 4-1 loss at Bethel

BLAINE, Minn. – Bailey Thompson and Bri Stafne scored two goals apiece to lead Bethel University to a 4-1 win over the St. Olaf College women's hockey team on Saturday afternoon at Bethel University Arena at the National Sports Center.

Thompson netted a pair of first-period goals for Bethel (8-13-0, 6-8-0 MIAC) and Stafne registered one in each of the last two periods. Sophomore Annika Patterson grabbed the final goal of the game with just over four minutes remaining for St. Olaf (0-19-2, 0-14-0 MIAC).

Goals from Thompson at 11:52 and 19:52 of the first period gave the Royals a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. After just one penalty in the first period, the teams combined for seven in the second period, with Stafne's power-play goal at 14:47 being the lone goal of the middle period.

Bethel killed off an early St. Olaf power play in the third period before Stafne's second goal of the game stretched the hosts' lead to 4-0.

Shortly after the Oles killed off a minor penalty, senior Johanna Glaaser and Patterson started a 2-on-1 rush that ended with Glaaser sliding the puck across to Patterson for the sophomore's third goal of the season at the 15:55 mark. First year Samantha Martin also earned an assist on the goal.

Mallory Tidona made 21 saves to record the victory for the Royals. Sophomore Ivy Shonka and first year Taylor Smith both recorded double-digit saves for the Oles, finishing with 14 and 12, respectively.

Next weekend, St. Olaf takes on Saint Mary's beginning with a 7 p.m. puck drop at Saint Mary's Ice Arena in Winona on Friday, Feb. 14. The following day is Senior Day for the Oles prior to the 2 p.m. puck drop at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
