DE PERE, Wis. – Abby Thompson scored a pair of second-half goals to lead St. Norbert College to a 2-0 victory over the St. Olaf College women's soccer team in non-conference action on Tuesday at Donald J. Schneider Stadium.
Thompson broke the deadlock in a scoreless game in the 69th minute and added an insurance goal in the 75th minute for St. Norbert (8-7-1), which picked up its third-straight victory. St. Olaf (4-9-1) held advantages of 14-10 in shots in the game but suffered its sixth consecutive loss.
In a scoreless game, Thompson netted the eventual game-winning goal with just over 20 minutes remaining, getting in behind the defense on the right before cutting in field and finishing in a 1-on-1 with the goalkeeper. Six minutes later, Thompson doubled the Green Knights' lead, slotting the ball into the lower-left corner of the net from the right side of the box.
St. Norbert came the closest to opening the scoring in the first half when Anja Jacobsen hit the crossbar with a free kick in the 18th minute. Both teams had just two shots on goal in a scoreless opening 45 minutes.
