Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

First years lead women's soccer to comeback win over Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. – First years Katie Korbas and Sadie Klassen scored their first collegiate goals to help the St. Olaf College women's soccer team to a 3-2 come-from-behind road victory over Concordia-Moorhead on Saturday afternoon.

After trailing by scores of 1-0 and 2-1, St. Olaf (5-9-1, 3-6-0 MIAC) scored the game's final two goals to defeat Concordia (3-12-0, 0-9-0 MIAC) and stay mathematically alive for a playoff spot with two games remaining in the regular season.

The teams exchanged first-half goals to go into the halftime interval tied at a goal apiece. Kylie Osborn opened the scoring for the Cobbers in the 27th minute before Korbas netted her first-career goal in the 42nd minute to tie the game.

Concordia-Moorhead took its second lead of the game in the 53rd minute on a goal by Samantha Holmberg, but St. Olaf quickly responded through senior Anna Newby just over three minutes later. Newby's goal was her second of the season and came off an assist from classmate Kate Oehm.

With the score still tied at 2-2, Klassen picked a good time to score her first-career goal, prodding the ball home from in close range in the 83rd minute, with senior Grace Maxwell earning an assist on the game-winning goal.

St. Olaf held a commanding 22-6 advantage in shots in the game, including a 16-3 edge in shots on goal. Senior Brynne Davis picked up the victory with one save for the Oles, while Breanna Nelson had 13 stops for the Cobbers in the loss.

St. Olaf hosts Augsburg on Wednesday, Oct. 27 in its final home game of the season. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m. at Rolf Mellby Field.
