Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Walsh, Altmann score for men's hockey in loss in Duluth

DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica scored the final four goals of the game to overturn a 2-1 deficit and defeat the St. Olaf College men's hockey team, 5-2, in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) opener for both teams on Friday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.

St. Olaf (1-3-1, 0-1-0 MIAC) got goals from first year Sean Walsh and junior Ashton Altmann in the final minute of the opening period to take a 2-1 lead into the second, but St. Scholastica (4-1-0, 1-0-0 MIAC) scored three times in the second period and again in the third to pick up its third-straight victory. The game was the first conference contest in the MIAC for the Saints after joining the conference prior to the 2021-22 academic year.

St. Scholastica jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead when Filimon Ledenkov scored just 1:01 into the game, but St. Olaf rallied late in the period on goals from Walsh and Altmann just 12 seconds apart to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room.

With 59 seconds remaining in the period, Walsh tied it up by scoring for the second-straight game, scoring from a very sharp angle on the left off of an assist from classmate Troy Bowditch. Off the ensuing face-off, Walsh forced a turnover in the attacking zone and fed the puck to his right to Altmann, who buried a one-timer to give the Oles the lead.

The Saints tied the game just 1:11 into the second period on a goal by Michael Talbot and added two more goals 1:11 apart inside the final five minutes of the period to take a 4-2 lead into the third. Nathan Adrian's power-play goal at 15:12 was the lone goal of the final 20 minutes.

St. Olaf held a 35-21 advantage in shots on goal in the game, but Jack Bostedt saved 33 of the 35 shots he faced for St. Scholastica. First year Thomas Lalonde was 16 saves in the loss for the Oles.

The two teams complete their series on Saturday, Nov. 13 at 5 p.m. at St. Olaf Ice Arena.
