St. Scholastica blanks women's hockey, 4-0

DULUTH, Minn. – The College of St. Scholastica got goals from four different skaters on its way to a 4-0 victory over the St. Olaf College women's hockey team on Saturday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena.

After a scoreless first period, St. Scholastica (4-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC) broke through inside the first minute of the second period and went on to score twice in each of the final two periods to post its second-straight 4-0 win in the weekend series with St. Olaf (4-2-0, 0-2-0 MIAC).

The Saints held a 9-4 advantage in shots in the scoreless opening period before Mariah Haedrich got the scoring started just 52 seconds into the second period off of an assist from Taylor Thompson. Thompson added a goal later in the period at 16:58 to send the hosts into the second intermission with a two-goal lead.

St. Scholastica was whistled for a pair of penalties in the first 3:35 of the third period, but St. Olaf was unable to convert with the player advantage. After killing off the penalties, the Saints went on to add goals by Rachel Anderson and Jessie Ketola to pull away in the final 10 minutes.

Lori Huseby recorded a 19-save shutout between the pipes for St. Scholastica, while junior Taylor Smith had 27 saves in the loss for the Oles. For the third time this season, St. Olaf did not commit a penalty in the game, but the Oles were 0-for-4 on the power play in the game.

St. Olaf visits Concordia-Moorhead on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19-20, beginning with a 7 p.m. puck drop for the series opener.
