Kelly logs double-double for women's basketball in loss at Hamline

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Junior Rachel Kelly had a 21-point, 12-rebound double-double for the St. Olaf College women's basketball team in a 69-39 road loss to Hamline University on Saturday afternoon at Hutton Arena.

Kelly was 6-for-12 from the field and 8-for-9 from the free-throw line on her way to the second double-double of her collegiate career for St. Olaf (2-3, 1-3 MIAC). Hamline (4-2, 3-1 MIAC), however, held the Oles to 22.7 percent shooting from the field as a team and forced 23 turnovers to pick up its third-straight Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) victory.

Senior K'Lynn Lewis was the only other Ole besides Kelly to hit multiple field goals in the game and had six points in the loss. St. Olaf trailed by just three, 18-15, after the first quarter before being outscored 51-24 over the final three quarters.

The Pipers held the Oles scoreless for the first 4:19 of the game before junior Sophie Olmen found Kelly for a layup. A three-pointer by Olmen and a jumper by Kelly helped St. Olaf tie the game at 8-8 with 3:22 to go in the quarter, but Hamline scored on the next possession and led the rest of the way.

A free throw by first year Tangen 17 seconds in was the lone Ole point of the quarter, as the Pipers outscored the Oles, 16-1, in the frame to take a 34-16 halftime lead. St. Olaf scored 13 of its 23 second-half points at the free-throw line. Kelly had 15 of her team's 23 points after the halftime break.

Lydia Lecher paced Hamline with 15 points on 6-for-18 shooting, while Tess Hauer had 12 points and six rebounds. Thirteen Pipers scored in the game.

The Oles head to Winona to face Saint Mary's University on Wednesday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m.
