NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Visiting St. Catherine University used four singles victories to rally past the St. Olaf College women's tennis by a 5-4 margin on Friday afternoon at Carlson Courts.
St. Olaf (2-1, 2-1 MIAC) carried a 2-1 lead into singles before St. Catherine (6-2, 4-2 MIAC) won the first four singles matches to finish to secure the victory. The match was the Oles' first outdoor match of the season and its first match on its home courts since April 9, 2019.
All three doubles matches were tightly contested, but St. Olaf won two of the three to take an advantage into singles.
Teresa Fawcett and
Anna Secor overcame an early 3-0 deficit to post an 8-6 victory at No. 3 doubles before
Emily Otteson and
Greta Prokosch improved to 3-0 this season with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles.
The Wildcats gave themselves a critical point going into singles when Kelsey Dorr and Bri Dorr edged
Sabrina Barboza and
Allie Prokosch in a tiebreaker, 7-4, at No. 1 doubles.
Straight-set singles victories from Noelle Slezak, Elsa Joly, and Kelsey Dorr gave St. Kate's a 4-2 lead before Reilee Schepper sealed the victory by rallying from a set down for a 10-5 super-tiebreaker win at No. 4 singles.
With the team result decided, the Prokosch sisters battled to victories for St. Olaf to make it a 5-4 score line.
Allie Prokosch bounced back from dropping the second set to take her match in a super tiebreaker, 11-9, while
Greta Prokosch outlasted her opponent in two grueling sets, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 to remain undefeated (3-0) this season.
The Oles face Gustavus on the road on Saturday, April 17 at 9 a.m.
