NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Senior
Spencer Wick won both his matches on Senior Day, as the St. Olaf College men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 match to the University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at Carlson Courts.
Wick teamed up with
Michael Yousef for a victory at No. 1 doubles before rallying for a come-from-behind win at No. 1 singles for St. Olaf (4-5, 2-5 MIAC). St. Thomas (7-4, 5-1) grabbed a tiebreaker win at No. 3 doubles to take a lead into singles and recorded five straight-set victories to pick up the win.
After the Tommies won at No. 2 doubles, Wick and Yousef improved to 3-1 as a tandem this season with an 8-6 victory at No. 1 doubles to even the score, but St. Thomas came out on top in a tiebreaker, 7-5, at No. 3 doubles to carry a 2-1 lead into the six singles matches.
Wick's No. 1 singles match against Frank Stich was the lone match to go to a super tiebreaker, as Wick recovered from dropping the opening set to record a 5-7, 7-5, 10-5 victory. The win was Wick's team-leading third in conference play this season.
St. Olaf celebrated the careers of Wick and
Dez Young on the court prior to the match. The Oles visit Bethel on Friday, April 23 at 4 p.m.
