BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Senior
Emily Otteson posted a come-from-behind victory at No. 4 singles for the St. Olaf College women's tennis team in an 8-1 loss to Bethel University on Monday afternoon at Bloomington Life Time Fitness.
After losing the first set, Otteson rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 10-6 victory over Ingrid Goldstrand to give St. Olaf (2-3, 2-3 MIAC) its lone point of the afternoon. Bethel (8-4, 5-1 MIAC) won a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles and a super tiebreaker at No. 6 singles on its way to its fourth-straight victory.
Otteson's win was her fourth in five matches this season, giving her the best singles record on the team to date. The senior is also 4-1 in doubles with
Greta Prokosch, as the duo saw their four-match winning streak to start the season come to an end with an 8-5 defeat to Bethel's Mackenzie Novak and Sydney Rott.
Junior
Teresa Fawcett won the first set of her No. 6 singles match against Rylee Schurman, but Schurman came back to claim the match in a super tiebreaker, 10-8.
In doubles, the No. 1 tandem of
Sabrina Barboza and
Allie Prokosch pushed All-Americans Grace and Maggie Riermann to a tiebreaker before falling, 7-3.
St. Olaf hosts St. Thomas on Wednesday, April 21 at 4 p.m. at Carlson Courts.
