AUSTIN, Texas – Recent St. Olaf College graduate
Lexi Wall '21 was honored as a Third Team Academic All-America ® selection by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Wednesday, becoming the second student-athlete in program history to be named to the Academic All-America ® teams.
Wall was one of 21 NCAA Division III student-athletes, including four from the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC), to be voted to the Academic All-America ® teams in women's volleyball. Prior to Wall's selection, the only St. Olaf volleyball student-athlete to earn Academic All-America ® honors was Jen Kuzma '97, who was named to the third team as an outside hitter in 1996.
Wednesday's announcement made Wall the 15th St. Olaf student-athlete to collect Academic All-America ® honors and the seventh in the last three academic years.
In order to be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and must have reached sophomore athletic eligibility while completing one full calendar year at his or her institution. For 2020-21, nominations were based on career statistics due to the variety in the number of matches played across conferences and divisions this year.
Wall advanced to the Academic All-America ® ballot last month after being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team for the second-straight year. The Chanhassen native concluded her time on the Hill with a 3.80 GPA while majoring in chemistry and was named to the Academic All-MIAC team in each of her three seasons of being eligible for the accolade.
On the court, Wall ranked in the top two in NCAA Division III in assists per set in each of her three full seasons, leading the country in both 2017 (11.24) and 2019 (11.67) while ranking second in 2018 (11.55). She was a three-time All-MIAC honoree and was named an American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Central Region and Honorable Mention All-America selection following the 2019 season.
Wall helped St. Olaf to a 75-25 record during her four seasons and is the program's all-time leader in assists per set (11.49) among setters to play at least 100 sets. Despite having her senior season limited to five matches due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wall sits sixth on St. Olaf's all-time assist list with 3.998 and also tallied 893 digs, 139 total blocks, and 78 aces in 96 matches in an Ole uniform.
