NORTHFIELD, Minn. – A pair of goals in the opening 12 minutes sent the St. Olaf College women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over visiting Hamline University on Saturday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Junior
Mae Guetschow and senior
Grace Maxwell provided the early goals for St. Olaf (3-2-1, 1-1-0 MIAC), which also got a goal from junior
Lily Hanlon with 15 minutes to go in the game. The win over Hamline (3-2-0, 1-1-0 MIAC) was the fifth in a row in the series for the Oles, who have outscored the Pipers by a 16-2 margin over the last five meetings.
Guetschow netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the fifth minute, firing a right-footed shot into the far lower-left corner of the net after collecting a loose ball and dribbling to the top of the box on the right.
Less than seven minutes later, Maxwell doubled St. Olaf's lead by volleying a looping left-footed shot from outside the box towards the goal that a Hamline defender on the line could not head off the line. The goal was the senior's first of the season and the fifth of her career.
The Oles maintained the two-goal lead until Hanlon tallied the first goal of her career in the 75th minute to close out the scoring, as the junior picked out the lower-left corner of the goal from outside the box.
St. Olaf outshot Hamline by a 32-3 margin in the game, including a 16-1 advantage in shots on goal. Lauren Sicora made 13 saves for the Pipers, while senior
Brynne Davis had just one save to make to record the 12th shutout of her career.
The Oles host non-conference foe UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m.
