Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Anderson scores twice, women's soccer doubled up by Blugolds

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Junior Tessa Anderson scored both goals for the St. Olaf College women's soccer team in a 4-2 loss to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

Anderson scored once in each half for St. Olaf (3-3-1) but UW-Eau Claire (5-2-2) netted two goals in each half to earn the non-conference victory. Emma Stange matched Anderson with a pair of goals, scoring twice in the opening half hour for the visitors.

Stange opened the scoring for UW-Eau Claire in the 11th minute, chipping a shot over Brynne Davis that nestled in the far side of the goal from the left side of the box. The lead lasted just less than two minutes, however, as Anderson received a pass from Lucia Ranallo and fired a shot into the lower-right corner of the goal to tie the game at 1-1.

The Blugolds reclaimed the lead in the 26th minute when Stange grabbed her second goal of the game, cutting the ball onto her right foot in the box and firing the ball home. St. Olaf nearly tied the game for a second time before the break, but Faith Yi saw her shot from the right side go wide of the far post.

Hannah Schaetzel grabbed the eventual game-winning goal for UW-Eau Claire in the 59th minute when she got on the end of a cross from the right from Megan Hansen and finished in front of the net. The Blugolds extended their lead to 4-1 just over 20 minutes later on a goal by Molly Henderson, who lifted the ball over an on-rushing Davis after being played in by Elise Pinewski.

UW-Eau Claire played the final 11-plus of the minutes with nine field players after a Blugold used their hand to block a goal-bound shot by Anna Newby in the box. Anderson stepped up and scored on the ensuing penalty kick to make it a two-goal game with just over 11 minutes remaining, but the Oles could not get any closer.

Kennedy Boll and Anna Sveiven each made three saves in the game for UW-Eau Claire, while Davis had seven stops for St. Olaf.

The Oles host Macalester on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 3:30 p.m. for the team's Alumni Recognition Game.
