Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

St. Scholastica deals women's soccer 1-0 loss

DULUTH, Minn. – A Morgan Friday goal early in the second half was the difference as the College of St. Scholastica edged the St. Olaf College women's soccer team by a 1-0 margin on Wednesday afternoon at Saints Field.

Friday scored the lone goal of the game in the 57th minute for St. Scholastica (2-5-2, 2-1-0 MIAC) as she arrived at the back post to fire in a corner kick from Ellie Keillor. Brianna Jorgenson made the lead stand up for the Saints by stopping all six shots on goal by St. Olaf (4-4-1, 2-2-0 MIAC) to record the shutout.

The meeting was the first between the two programs in over six years since a 1-1 tie at Rolf Mellby Field on Sept. 12, 2015. Both of the Oles' conference losses this season have come on the road by 1-0 scores.

The corner that led to Friday's goal came after senior Brynne Davis managed to keep out a shot by McKenzie Nelson that ricocheted off the bar and off Davis before going out over the end line. Davis had four saves in the game for St. Olaf.

After Friday's goal, the closest St. Olaf came to scoring was with a little over three minutes remaining when junior Tessa Anderson got a toe to through ball but could not turn the ball past an onrushing Jorgenson. Anderson led the Oles with four shots and three shots on goal in the loss.

Scoring chances were hard to come by in the first half for both teams. Alexa Ickert came the closest to scoring for the Saints, curling a right-footed shot towards the top-right corner of the goal following a short corner, but Davis managed to tip it behind for a corner.

St. Olaf looks to bounce back on Saturday, Oct. 2 when crosstown-rival Carleton visits Rolf Mellby Field for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
