Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Six score in first half for men's soccer in victory over Northland

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's soccer team scored six first-half goals, including five in the span of 11-plus minutes, on its way to a 6-0 victory over visiting Northland College on Sunday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.

St. Olaf (2-0-0) got goals from six different scorers in the victory and scored five times in the span of 11:35 of game time starting with first year Shea Bechtel's opening goal in the 10th minute. Casey McCloskey, Lucas Gaulmin, Hakeem Morgan, Victor Gaulmin, and Max Eisenfeld also netted goals in the program's first-ever meeting with Northland (1-1).

McCloskey's goal was his second in as many games to start the season, while Morgan and Victor Gaulmin joined Bechtel in netting their first official collegiate goals. Morgan added a pair of assists to his goal, while McCloskey and the younger Gaulmin had an assist apiece.

Bechtel, who had an assist in his collegiate debut earlier in the week, opened the scoring in the 10th minute by being on hand to finish off a rebound after Northland goalkeeper Jamie Colvill got down to stop a Morgan shot in the box. A little over four minutes later, McCloskey doubled St. Olaf's lead by scoring into an empty net after taking the ball off the Northland goalkeeper.

Less than two minutes after McCloskey's goal, Lucas Gaulmin made it 3-0 by firing a shot from more than 30 yards out into the top-right corner of the goal after collecting a pass from his younger brother.

Already leading by three after 16 minutes, the Oles netted two goals exactly one minute apart in the 20th and 21st minutes to cap off the early five-goal flurry. Morgan picked out the lower-left corner of the goal from the top of the Northland box after a turnover for St. Olaf's fourth goal and Victor Gaulmin arrived in the box to blast home the fifth goal off of assists from McCloskey and Morgan.

Eisenfeld closed out the six-goal first half in the 43rd minute, controlling a ball from Ian Holtz-Hazeltine at the top of the box and firing a shot off of the right post and in. The assist was the first point of Holtz-Hazeltine's young career.

St. Olaf outshot Northland by a 24-1 margin in the game, including taking all 13 of the game's shots on goal. Colvill made seven saves in the loss for the LumberJacks, while none of the four Ole goalkeepers had any saves to make on the afternoon.

The Oles are off until Colorado College comes to Rolf Mellby Field for a 4 p.m. kickoff on Friday, Sept. 10.
