BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – First year
Sean Walsh became the fourth member of the St. Olaf College men's hockey team to be named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week this season on Monday afternoon.
Walsh had a four-point weekend at St. Olaf extended its unbeaten streak to four games with road wins over UW-River Falls and UW-Stout this weekend. The Hopkinton, Mass. product had a career-high three points on two goals and one assist in Friday night's 4-2 win in River Falls before tallying an assist the following night in Menomonie.
With the Oles trailing 2-1 after one period on Friday night, Walsh scored the game-tying power-play goal at 1:37 of the second period before netting the game-winning goal on the power play at 4:01 of the third to help St. Olaf to its first win over the Falcons since 2008. He also assisted on the Oles' opening goal of the game in both wins, including setting up junior
Ashton Altmann's opener just 1:03 into Saturday night's victory over UW-Stout that started St. Olaf's three-goal opening period.
The four-point weekend brought Walsh's season tally to 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 16 games, putting him in the top two on the team and in the top 15 in the conference in both goals and points.
St. Olaf has had a conference-high four of the nine MIAC Men's Hockey Athlete of the Week honorees this season, as Walsh joined classmates
Tyler Cooper and
Ethan Hersant, as well as Altmann, in being recognized with the weekly accolade.
The Oles head to St. Peter to face Gustavus in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Jan. 18 at 7 p.m.
