Women's tennis rolls past Hamline, 9-0

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In its first-ever fall Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match, the St. Olaf College women's tennis team rolled to a 9-0 win over visiting Hamline University on Saturday afternoon at Carlson Courts.

St. Olaf (1-1, 1-0 MIAC) dropped just 12 games across the nine spots in the lineup in the win over Hamline (1-3, 0-2 MIAC). Prior to this season, MIAC coaches voted to allow the opportunity for conference matches to be played in the fall portion of the season.

The Oles lost just three games on their way to a doubles sweep to open the match. Sophomore Olha Zubarieva and senior Allie Prokosch recorded an 8-1 win atop the lineup, sophomores Jane Spading and Sarah Clark cruised to an 8-0 victory at No. 2 doubles, and junior Anna Secor and first year Alexandra Berns recorded an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles.

In singles, Zubarieva and classmate Fiona O'Flaherty did not drop a single game in their matches at No. 1 and No. 4 singles, respectively, while Prokosch and Spading lost just one game in their wins at No. 2 and No. 5 singles. Berns lost just one game in each set at No. 3 singles, while Clark also logged a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles.

The match was St. Olaf's final contest of the fall season, as the Oles are off until taking on the College of Sc. Scholastica on Sunday, Feb. 19 at West Hills Tennis and Fitness Center in Owatonna.
