VIRGINIA, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team recorded its third-straight 5-4 victory in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) by edging the College of St. Scholastica in the first match between the two programs as conference opponents on Sunday at Virginia Indoor Tennis and Pickleball Club.

Teresa Fawcett paired with classmate
Christiana Cholakis to win in a tiebreaker at No. 2 doubles and picked up the clinching fifth point with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 5 singles for St. Olaf (6-2, 4-1 MIAC), which extended its winning streak to six matches with the win over St. Scholastica (7-6, 3-4 MIAC). The win extended the Oles' longest winning streak since a seven-match run in 2016.

Jane Spading got St. Olaf off to a quick start with an 8-0 victory at No. 3 doubles to remain unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 this season. After St. Scholastica evened the match with an 8-4 win at No. 1 doubles, Fawcett and Cholakis gave the Oles an advantage heading into singles by winning a tiebreaker, 7-2, at No. 2 doubles for their second-straight win.
First year
Fiona O'Flaherty claimed her third consecutive singles win and moved to 5-2 this season with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles to extend St. Olaf's lead to 3-1, but the Saints leveled the match with a tight win at No. 2 singles and a super-tiebreaker win at No. 3 singles.

Olha Zubarieva logged a straight-set win at No. 1 singles – her fourth victory in a row – to break the tie and bring the Oles within a point with two matches still on court. Fawcett secured the victory by dropping just one game at No. 5 singles before St. Scholastica won the final match to finish at No. 6 singles.
St. Olaf visits regionally-ranked Carleton for a 4 p.m. match on Monday, April 11 at Pat Lamb Tennis Courts.
