BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For the second time this season, sophomore
Sam Lavin of the St. Olaf College baseball team was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Baseball Player of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon.
Lavin became the first two-time MIAC Baseball Player of the Week after posting a slash line of .500/.526/.889 in five games last week for St. Olaf, recording two doubles, a triple, two runs, and eight RBI. The sophomore had a career-high four hits and drove in a career-best four runs in a 16-6 win to complete a sweep of Macalester on Thursday before going 2-for-4 with two walks, a home run, and three RBI in a 10-4 victory over Concordia-Moorhead in game two on Saturday.
The Algonquin, Ill. native currently leads the Oles in batting average (.365), OPS (1.096), hits (23), triples (3), slugging percentage (.635), and on-base percentage (.481) this season, while ranking in the MIAC's top 20 in triples, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, batting average, home runs, and runs batted in.
St. Olaf finishes its suspended game at Carleton on Tuesday, April 26 at 4 p.m. before heading to St. Paul for a doubleheader against Hamline at CHS Field on Wednesday, April 27 starting at 5:30 p.m.
