Men's tennis sees season end with Senior Day loss to Macalester

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 7-2 Senior Day loss to Macalester College on Tuesday afternoon at Carlson Courts.

St. Olaf (6-7, 4-5 MIAC) entered the day needing a win to keep its chances of earning a spot in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Playoffs alive, but Macalester (11-5, 7-1 MIAC) took two of the three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches to pick up its fourth-straight victory.

The match was the Oles' first of the season at its home outdoor courts and was Senior Day for the team's four seniors: Anders Bergsten, Ethan Bruha, Tony Klagge, and Tim Roback.

The Scots started the match by picking up two points in doubles, getting an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles and an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles. Junior Henry Smith and sophomore Max Loesch recorded their seventh win in their last eight matches with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles to cap a season that saw the duo go 7-1 in MIAC play.

St. Olaf's lone victory in singles came from sophomore Lorenzo Cazzamali, who logged a 6-4, 6-4 win atop the lineup to close out his first season of collegiate tennis on a three-match winning streak. The sophomore won five of his final six matches of the season.

The Oles closed out the season with a 6-7 overall record and a 4-5 mark in MIAC play. The four conference wins were the program's most since going 7-2 in 2014-15.
