NORTHFIELD, Minn. – The St. Olaf College women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to three games with a 3-1 non-conference victory over Coe College on Wednesday afternoon at Rolf Mellby Field.
Seniors
Tessa Anderson and
Rachel Tanner gave St. Olaf (3-3-1) a 2-0 halftime lead and sophomore
Sadie Klassen added a third goal early in the second half. The Oles outshot Coe (0-7-1) by a 32-3 margin in the game, as the Kohawks scored on their lone shot on goal in the game with a half hour to play.
St. Olaf piled on the pressure early and broke through in the 19th minute when first year
Cat Duffy-Shaw dropped the ball back to Anderson outside the box on the right side and Anderson sent a left-footed shot inside the far post. The goal was Anderson's first of the season and the assist was Duffy-Shaw's first collegiate point.
The score remained 1-0 until Tanner scored in the 43rd minute to double the Oles' lead at the break. Junior
Bella Woog set up Tanner's first goal of the season, beating a defender on the right side of the box before squaring the ball to Tanner to curl into the top-right corner of the net.
Less than three minutes into the second half, St. Olaf added a third goal when Klassen powered in a header in front following a cross from Anderson on the right wing. Coe got one goal back 10 minutes later on Mackenzie Adams' third goal of the season off an assist from Mackenzie Jones.
Liana Sweezer was kept busy and recorded a 12-save afternoon for Coe, while senior
Grace Sprangers – the reigning Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Defensive Player of the Week – only faced one shot in the game for St. Olaf.
The Oles return to MIAC play on Saturday, Sept. 24 for a 3 p.m. kickoff at Macalester College.
