MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College volleyball team split a pair of four-set matches on Saturday at the Augsburg Triangular, rebounding from a loss to Augsburg University by defeating UW-Eau Claire at Si Melby Hall.
In the first match of the day, St. Olaf (10-7, 2-3 MIAC) won the opening set before Augsburg (11-10, 3-2 MIAC) took the next three in a 20-25, 25-20, 27-25, 25-22 victory. The Oles flipped the script in the final match of the night, recovering from dropping the first set to post a 23-25, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20 win over UW-Eau Claire (9-9).
With 47 digs and six aces on the day, fifth-year senior
Selena Rodriguez moved up St. Olaf's all-time lists in both categories. The 47 digs saw Rodriguez jump up one spot to sixth in program history with 1,518 for her career, while her six aces against the Blugolds vaulted her into the top 10 in a tie for ninth with 139.
The Oles head to St. Catherine University for a 7 p.m. match on Wednesday, Oct. 11 in St. Paul.

A day after tallying a career-high 20 kills against Carleton College, senior
Anysia Caille matched the total while hitting .395 to pace St. Olaf, but Augsburg hit 14 aces and had three hitters in double figures in kills to pick up the win. The Oles had 17 more kills (64-47) than the Auggies, but the hosts hit 10 more aces (14-4) in the victory.
Caille recorded 20 kills with just three errors on 43 swings to lead St. Olaf offensively, while classmate
Catherine Moore had 16 kills. Junior

Maren Miller chipped in with nine kills apiece, with Miller doing so on just 16 swings to hit .500.

Paige Christophersen, and Rodriguez all had double-doubles in the loss. Fildew registered 29 assists, 10 digs, and three aces, Christophersen had 20 assists and 15 digs, and Rodriguez tallie d23 digs and 10 assists. First year
Michaela Dooley made 12 digs as one of five Oles with at least 10 digs on the afternoon.
St. Olaf hit .341 and held Augsburg to a .132 clip on its way to a 25-20 set win in the opener. The set included 10 ties and the last of the 10 came at 16-16, which the Oles broke with a 3-0 run on kills by Caille and Moore on either side of an ace by Christophersen. The Auggies won the next two points but could not pull even, as St. Olaf won four of the final five points of the set to close it out.
The Oles cooled off to an attack percentage of .105 in the second, as the Auggies leveled the match at a set apiece. Augsburg broke an 11-11 tie with an 8-0 run that included three-straight aces by Brier Ziemer and led by at least four the rest of the way.
Caille and Moore combined for 13 kills in the third set, which included 18 ties and eight lead changes, but the hosts won the set in extra points, 27-25, to grab a two-sets-to-one lead. After trailing 22-20, the Oles won three points in a row to reclaim the lead and held a set point at 24-23, but a service error kept the Auggies in the set. Augsburg survived another set point for St. Olaf at 25-24 before getting an ace and a block to win the set.
Looking to send the match the distance, the Oles raced out to an 8-1 lead in the fourth behind three early kills by Caille. Augsburg used a 9-1 run to tie the score at 12-12 and used two 3-0 runs later in the set to go up 22-20. The Oles got back within a point at 23-22 on a kill by Miller, but the Auggies finished off the win with back-to-back kills. Bri Van Well had seven of her team-high 19 kills in the fourth set for Augsburg.
St. Olaf 3, UW-Eau Claire 1 | Box Score
Moore recorded 17 kills – one shy of her season high – and hit .367 to propel St. Olaf past UW-Eau Claire for just the Oles' second win in the last 11 meetings in the series dating back to 2004. The senior was the lone Ole in double figures in kills, but four hitters had eight kills apiece in a balanced attack outside of Moore.
Christophersen logged her sixth double-double in the last eight matches with 24 assists and 12 digs, while Rodriguez contributed across the board with 24 digs, seven assists, and a season-high six aces. Junior
Maycie Rogers was one of the four Oles with eight kills while adding 11 digs and two aces. Miller was in on a team-high five blocks to go with eight kills, seven digs, and one ace.
Moore delivered seven kills in the opening set, but no other Ole had more than two as UW-Eau Claire grabbed the set by a 25-23 margin. St. Olaf recovered from an early 7-2 deficit to tie the set at 20-20 and later took a 23-22 lead on an ace by Miller, but the Blugolds won the final three points to steal the set.
Five Oles had multiple kills in the second set and Rodriguez made 10 digs to help St. Olaf limit UW-Eau Claire to a .118 attack percentage. Moore had three kills during a 5-0 run midway through the set that gave the Oles a 17-10 cushion and St. Olaf led by at least three for the remainder of the set, closing it out on a 4-0 run that included two kills by first year
Lilah Van Scoyoc and back-to-back aces by Rodriguez.
St. Olaf posted its highest attack percentage of the match in the third, hitting .375 to grab a two-sets-to-one lead. Already leading 10-8, the Oles won seven consecutive points on Dooley's serve, with the first year hitting three aces during the spurt, and never looked back to take the set 25-16. UW-Eau Claire held a 16-15 lead in the fourth before St. Olaf won six points in a row to take the lead for good, with Rodriguez delivering a pair of aces during the final three points of the run.
