Women's tennis tops George Fox in Florida opener

ORLANDO, Fla. – The St. Olaf College women's tennis team picked up its third-straight victory with a 6-3 win over non-conference foe George Fox University on Friday afternoon at the USTA National Campus.

In its first of four matches in Florida, St. Olaf (5-3) won two of the three doubles matches and claimed wins at the top-four singles spots to top George Fox (5-8). Sophomore Olha Zubarieva and senior Allie Prokosch extended their winning streak at No. 1 doubles to seven matches and were both victorious in singles as well.

Zubarieva and Prokosch improved to 7-1 in dual matches as a pairing this season with an 8-4 triumph at No. 1 doubles for one of St. Olaf's two doubles points. First year Alexandra Berns and junior Anna Secor added an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles for their fifth victory of the season to help the Oles take a lead into singles.

In singles, St. Olaf claimed straight-set victories at each of the top-four flights to secure the team win. Zubarieva ran her record to 6-1 in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win atop the lineup for her fourth victory in a row. Prokosch dropped just two games in her 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 2 singles to stretch her winning streak to three matches.

Sophomores Jane Spading and Fiona O'Flaherty were also victorious for the Oles. Spading picked up her team-leading ninth singles win of the season by a 6-2, 6-4 margin at No. 3 singles, while O'Flaherty earned her eighth victory by a 6-3, 6-4 score at No. 4 singles.

St. Olaf continues its time in Florida with a matchup against NCAA Division II foe Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University at 10 a.m. CDT on Saturday, March 25. Embry-Riddle was ranked No. 31 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) national poll.
