LAKELAND, Fla. – Sophomore
Olha Zubarieva and senior
Allie Prokosch extended their lengthy winning streak at No. 1 doubles for the St. Olaf College women's tennis team in an 8-1 loss to sixth-ranked Southeastern University on Tuesday at Beerman Family Tennis Complex.
Prokosch and Zubarieva picked up their ninth victory in a row by claiming an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles to provide the lone point of the match for St. Olaf (5-5). Southeastern (9-5) was ranked No. 6 in the country at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) level in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll.
With their win, Prokosch and Zubarieva have not lost since dropping a tiebreaker against Cardinal Stritch University way back on Oct. 2. Southeastern lost just three games in the other two doubles matches to take a lead into singles.
The Fire won four of the six singles matches in straight sets and claimed both of the singles matches to go to a super tiebreaker. Prokosch fought back from dropping a close first set to win the second before eventually falling 7-5, 3-6, 10-7 at No. 2 singles, while junior
Anna Secor was outlasted by a 7-6 (7-0), 4-6, 11-9 margin at No. 6 singles.
The Oles conclude their trip by facing Warner University – another NAIA opponent – on Wednesday, March 29 at 2 p.m. CDT at the USTA National Campus.
