MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The St. Olaf College men's tennis team saw its season come to a close with a 6-3 loss to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe Macalester College on Sunday morning at Baseline Tennis Center.
St. Olaf (6-12, 3-6 MIAC) got singles victories from first year
Bogdan Vizoli and junior
Jakub Belik and a doubles win from junior
Max Loesch and first year
Henry Kruse, but Macalester (11-6, 7-2 MIAC) claimed two points in doubles and four in singles to earn the victory.
The Scots recorded 8-4 victories at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to take a 2-0 lead before Loesch and Kruse gave the Oles a point going into singles with an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles. The victory was the duo's third in a row to conclude the season.
Belik picked up St. Olaf's lone straight-set victory of the day in singles with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph at No. 5 singles for his second-straight win. Vizoli capped a strong rookie season by recovering from dropping the second set to log a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 super-tiebreaker victory at No. 1 singles to conclude a 7-2 first-year campaign in conference play.
The Oles had chances in the matches at No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles to pick up another point or two, but Macalester won a second-set tiebreaker for a straight-set win at No. 4 singles and registered a super-tiebreaker victory at No. 6 singles.
