In the first postseason meeting between the two programs,
St. Olaf edged Saint Mary's by a run, 3-2, in the quarterfinals on Thursday to advance to the semifinals. Senior
Andrea Conway broke a 2-2 tie with the go-ahead RBI single in the sixth inning after the Cardinals twice scratched across runs to erase a pair of one-run leads for the Oles.
Thursday's victory improved St. Olaf's all-time record in the MIAC Playoffs to 8-11, as the Oles are in the midst of their seventh appearance in the tournament. St. Olaf has qualified for the MIAC Playoffs in each of the last five seasons the tournament has been held and was one of the last two teams standing in the tournament in each of the last two seasons.
Saint Ben's earned a bye into the semifinals after finishing second to Bethel in the regular season with a 16-6 mark in MIAC play. The Bennies are in the MIAC Playoffs for the third season in a row – the 10th time overall – and are 5-13 all-time in the tournament.
Saturday's semifinal matchup will be the third meeting between St. Olaf and Saint Ben's in the MIAC Playoffs, with each team winning once previously. The Oles defeated the Bennies by a 7-4 score in the semifinals last season after CSB claimed a 5-4, nine-inning victory in 2018. Saint Ben's swept St. Olaf during the regular season by scores of
7-3 and 3-2 (eight innings) on April 7.
