NORTHFIELD, Minn. - After four seasons as the head men's soccer coach at St. Olaf College,
Travis Wall has stepped down to accept the head men's soccer coach position at Kenyon College, as announced by St. Olaf Athletic Director
Ryan Bowles on Monday.
After being hired in December of 2018, Wall led St. Olaf to an overall record of 43-18-3 (.695), including a mark of 22-7-1 (.750) in Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play, during his four seasons on the Hill. Among head coaches to spend more than one season with the program, Wall's .695 winning percentage ranks second in program history to St. Olaf Athletic Hall of Famer Whitey Aus '59, his 43 wins are third all-time behind fellow Hall of Famer Kurt Anderson and Aus.
"I want to thank Travis for everything he has done for St. Olaf men's soccer during his time on the Hill," Bowles said. "Travis has elevated our program to one of the best in the country and has proven to be one of the top college soccer coaches in the country. I wish him well at Kenyon and know he will continue to do great things."
In Wall's final two seasons, he guided St. Olaf to back-to-back appearances in the "Sweet 16" of the NCAA Tournament in 2021 and 2022, making the program one of just five NCAA Division III men's soccer programs to accomplish that feat. St. Olaf went a combined 34-8-3 (.789) overall and 17-2-1 (.875) in conference play over the last two seasons and won the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) regular-season title in 2021 and the MIAC Playoffs title in 2022. In 2021, he was named the MIAC Coach of the Year by his peers and was part of the United Soccer Coaches Region IX Coaching Staff of the Year.
"The last five years at St. Olaf have been truly the most rewarding years of my life," Wall said. "My gratitude for all of the young men I've been able to coach and their families knows no bounds. While I will miss coaching them in a very significant way, I also look forward to maintaining these friendships for a long time, as well as following the continued success of this program and the lives these guys lead after their time on the Hill is over. I would not have wanted to spend the last five years with anyone else or anywhere else. St. Olaf is a special place and my time here will always hold a special place with me thanks to the people."
During his time at St. Olaf, Wall coached three United Soccer Coaches All-Americans, four D3soccer.com All-Americans, eight United Soccer Coaches All-Region honorees, four MIAC major award recipients, 12 All-MIAC selections, four Honorable Mention All-MIAC honorees, and 30 Academic All-MIAC honorees. After not being nationally-ranked since the end of the 2015 season, St. Olaf was ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 nine times over the last two seasons, peaking at No. 10 in the country and ending the 2021 and 2022 seasons in the top 15.
"Working for
Ryan Bowles has been one of the greatest blessings I could ever ask for," Wall added. "I'm so grateful he took a chance and hired me five years ago. I would also like to say thank you to the sports medicine team, admissions, game operations, our sports information department, and our other coaches who have made working at St. Olaf such a positive experience."
St. Olaf's next head men's soccer coach will be announced later this week.
