ST. PAUL, Minn. – Sophomore
Megan Timmerman gave the St. Olaf College women's soccer team an early lead, but regionally-ranked St. Catherine University scored the game's final three goals to claim a 3-1 win on Saturday afternoon at St. Kate's Field.
Timmerman scored her second goal of the season just over six minutes in for St. Olaf (3-3-0, 1-1-0 MIAC), but St. Kate's (5-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC) responded on a penalty kick just 20 seconds later to tie the game. The Wildcats broke a 1-1 tie at the break on second-half goals from Amanda Elton and Kallan Tuominen inside the space of 10 minutes to snap the Oles' three-game winning streak.
St. Kate's was ranked No. 5 in Region IX in this week's United Soccer Coaches Regional Rankings and extended its unbeaten streak in the series with St. Olaf to 10 games (9-0-1).
A little over six minutes into the game, sophomore
Cat Duffy-Shaw found Timmerman near the top of the box, and Timmerman slotted the ball into the lower-left corner of the net to put St. Olaf on top. The goal was Timmerman's second in three games and the assist was Duffy-Shaw's second of the season.
The Wildcats answered juts 20 seconds later, however, as Ari Green converted on a penalty kick after a foul in the box. The score remained 1-1 at the halftime break after both teams had 11 shots in the opening 45 minutes.
St. Kate's scored the eventual game-winning goal in the 59th minute when Amanda Elton headed in a right-wing cross from Maddi Springer to break the tie. The Wildcats added an insurance goal less than 10 minutes later when Green cut the ball back for Tuominen to turn home in the 68th minute.
St. Olaf held a slender 16-15 advantage in shots in the game, although St. Kate's owned a 10-6 lead in shots on goal. Goaltenders

The Oles take a break from Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) play to host UW-Eau Claire on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 4 p.m.
