COLFAX, Wis. – The ninth-ranked St. Olaf College women's cross country team had four top-20 finishers en route to a runner-up team finish at the Blugold Invitational on Friday at Whitetail Golf Course.
Using its familiar pack-running style, St. Olaf's four top-20 individuals were separated by 12 seconds to help the Oles to second in the field of 25 teams with 87 points. Fourth-ranked Carleton College had three of the top-four finishers and landed all five of its scorers in the top 20 to claim the team title with 40 points. St. Olaf was 19 points ahead of No. 22-ranked UW-Eau Claire (106), while NCAA Division I UW-Milwaukee (129) and the No. 33-ranked College of Saint Benedict (192) rounded out the top-five teams.
For the second meet in a row, senior
Bella Call paced the Oles, finishing 13th in 22:51.70 to lead the four top-20 performances. Sophomore
Lauren Walda followed Call in 14th (22:55.20), while classmate
Grace Moeller and senior
Katie Gebert were less than 10 seconds behind Walda in 16th (22:59.30) and 17th (23:03.70).
Junior
Sophie Abernethy was St. Olaf's fifth and final scorer in 27th (23:27.40), with senior
Julia Everest two spots behind Abernethy in 29th (23:31.80). Junior
Sofia Carlson added a top-40 result in 36th (23:40.60).
After taking next weekend off, the Oles return to action on Saturday, Oct. 14 at the Tori Neubauer Invitational in West Salem, Wis.
